BARNABY FINCH supposed it was a natural consequence of dealing with the supernatural... these sorts of questions that lingered in his mind. About life and rebirth and immortality. [break][break]

MOLTRES was dead. He'd seen its spirit with his own eyes, flying from the rift between the border of life and death. Ephemeral. Incorporeal.[break][break]

And yet there were now reports of it wandering the region, very much alive. Barnaby himself had obtained video evidence showing as much.[break][break]

How? [break][break]

Within ROCKET, bryan delarosa seemed like the best man to ask. Luckily, the Beast had agreed to meet him at the resurrection point — Mt. Chimney.[break][break]

"What about this place is so special, I wonder?" He mused, recalling events that had transpired at the volcano, like GROUDON's own awakening. "That a 'god' could find rebirth here?"[break][break]

Heat from the lava flows warmed the admin's skin, its light illuminating his face in the otherwise pitch blackness surrounding them.[break][break]

"Your thoughts, Bryan?" Barnaby asked, his head rolling to the side to meet bryan delarosa's gaze. There was a pleasant whimsey to his voice, as if this talk of gods and resurrection was a simple campfire story shared between friends.

Bryan was the rocket expert on the subject of death. [break][break]

"I don't think it's the mountain that's special. It's the pokemon." he states as the bottom of a whiskey glass gets to greet the sky as the liquid inside goes down his throat, burning him in a delightful way. "Human's call places special, but if the tree of life taught me anything, any place can become important with enough care." he says as he follows behind Barnaby. [break][break]

The tree of life, the one growing right now in foretree, was a beacon to his logic. The old one had been destroyed, ravaged by a demon spawn of this world but someone life found a way to return. Despite the fact it was just a sapling, it only needed time which he had plenty of time. [break][break]

"Xerneas and I don't really need to return to a place to rest when we're injured. I've been shot in the head, stabbed, spine broken, burned, limbs ripped off." he says "But what makes me return every time is xerneas's ability. not the tree of life at least. I doubt chimney is difference, just the means to an end."

Nursing his own tumbler of whiskey, Barnaby mused over Bryan's words for quite some time. [break][break]

It was a comfortable silence between two ROCKETs. They were sat on a few flat boulders away from the lip of the volcano. Close enough to feel the heat, but far enough away for it to simply be a cozy sensation.[break][break]

"A means to an end..." He echoed the words into his glass, contemplating their implication. [break][break]

He wasn't convinced. Not yet. Far too much had occurred at Mt. Chimney for its significance to be inconsequential. [break][break]

"If the place isn't special, then is there no connection between Xerneas and the Tree of Life? Do the two not depend upon one another?" Admittedly, Barnaby wasn't well-versed in these sorts of things, hence why he'd called on bryan delarosa.

Despite being assigned it's essential caregiver, he knew frighteningly little about it and what he did in fact know he did not share with anyone the only other person knowing that information being priam conrad . [break][break]

"I don't know honestly. I once would have probably say yes, but seeing what happen in sootopolis I don't really know. Xerneas isn't exactly the most forthcoming with what information he shares." he says rather confused [break][break]

He does however share some information with barnaby "If i'm being honest about it. Despite him not sharing much about it, I feel an innate desire to care and tend to it." he says as he was not a very sentimental or caring person anymore. However his feelings didn't exactly match his earlier statement and it perplexed him. [break][break]

"Why do you care so much about this mountain Barnaby?"

"Mmm." There was no forgetting what occurred at Sootopolis last summer. It had been a bloody, chaos-filled day, and by the end of it the Tree of Life — the gargantuan one that had loomed over the city for months — was no more.[break][break]

But XERNEAS remained. And despite what bryan delarosa proposed earlier about the place not being special, he still felt an instinctive pull to tend to the Tree sapling in Fortree City. Why? There had to be an explanation.[break][break]

"Xerneas chose you for a reason. What does it want you to accomplish?" A Legendary Pokémon did not share its energy and power without cause.[break][break]

As for BARNABY FINCH's reasoning — why he felt drawn to Mt. Chimney and its mysteries — perhaps it was simply the tipping point in the years of experiences he'd amassed in Hoenn.[break][break]

Places mattered, not just Pokémon. After all, their region was the Origin Point... for the early death of all realities. [break][break]

"There's so much we still don't know." Sighing, Barnaby threw back what remained in his glass before continuing.[break][break]

"If Maldacena is to be believed, all of the 'anomalies' we've seen over the years — Mega Evolution, Avatars, Illumina Pokémon," Here Barnaby turned away from the volcano, looking for eye contact from the ROCKET Beast beside him.[break][break]

"You get the idea. They all just represent our universe stepping closer toward destruction, right?"[break][break]

Pitched a soft ochre by the lava's orange glow, there was something earnest and unreadable in the way Barnaby's eyes bored into Bryan's. [break][break]

"How do we stop that from happening...?" The admin did not hold the other man's gaze for long; turning away, he returned his attention to the caldera.[break][break]

"...Is what I wonder when I look at places like Mt. Chimney or the Tree of Life."

Bryan decides to share freely why Xerneas chose him "Out of obligation, as a reward." he says as Bryan was very up front about it. "In the tree of life during the geomancy raid. I sacrificed my supply of blue mulch to save Xerneas as there was a massive Seviper that was feasting on him everyday to maintain his own infinite supply of infinity energy." [break][break]

"After we restored him, he had me help him use goemancy and ever since we've been linked. However these days, he just wants to continue to watch me live my life. Ironic isn't it? A god of life wanting to watch a murderer live his life" he says "Apparently something about I living my life brightly. I don't know, he talks weird." he says as he kind of just shrugs it off. [break][break]

As Barnaby asks him about how to save the universe Bryan's face grows stern. "I don't really know..I'm not smart enough for that kind of stuff, I just punch shit." he says feeling a bit defeated and fearful he was sure that the destruction of the world would be something not even he could survive, and even if he did, he'd suffer alone forever. [break][break]

"What do you think it'll be that does us in?" he asks wondering if barnaby had theories of how it'd actually happen.

bryan delarosa's explanation matched the reports Barnaby had read on the Geomancy Raid, for the most part. But it was still interesting to hear it from the man firsthand.[break][break]

A reward. A champion duly compensated. That made sense in Barnaby's mind. What didn't, however, was XERNEAS' reason for staying by Bryan's side. [break][break]

"It just wants to watch you? That's it?" Barnaby didn't even bother trying to hide the incredulity in his voice. There had to be more to a bond between Avatar and Patron than that... right? Some unvoiced, ulterior motive, surely.[break][break]

Or did the Legendary Pokémon have knowledge of bryan delarosa that was beyond the mortal pale? Did it see great things in the Beast's future? [break][break]

There was much to be considered.[break][break]

As Bryan continued, it seemed these musings leaned darker as of late. [break][break]

"Who knows, really? So much outrageous shit has happened in just the two years I've been here. It shook me at first, but now I'm almost numb to it." You could only go to so many alternate dimensions before the oddity of it all wore off.[break][break]

"Maybe the DRK Triad will set off a nuke and wipe Hoenn off the map." There was humor in the way Barnaby spoke. There had to be; it was all just so absurd. No sane person could rationalize it all without a little levity.

Bryan simply shrugs again "Yeah I suppose, when you've lived for as long as he has. Anomilies, Hoenn, all of it must be so interesting and new he cant help but want to watch? I- I-" he says as his words begin to stumble. [break][break]

However he starts to link pieces together from Barnaby's questions and their location and mythology that he's heard from others "And let me guess, after that nuke you want to rise from the ashes like I might?" he asks as he raises an eyebrow at Barnaby wondering if this man was pursuing favor from a legendary creature. "Or is this to assist the glory of rocket?" he wonders.

And it'd always had been. ROCKET was Barnaby's network, his source of influence, his connection to power and wealth and control. He'd invested too much to allow the organization to fail.[break][break]

And by extension, to allow the universe it resided in to succumb to the likes of the DRK Triad.[break][break]

"What's the point in rising from the ashes when the world is burning around you?"[break][break]

The admin's tone had cooled in the moments since his last remark. [break][break]

"This is about survival. And I'll do what it takes to guarantee that."
